OUTLINE PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED FOR BIRMINGHAM’S AXIS SQUARE
Birmingham City Council has given the go-ahead for the exciting Axis Square development, promoted by LCR.
This major development will transform the city centre site next to The Mailbox, providing an attractive public square surrounded by new shops and modern office space. The design will enable people to walk more easily between Broad Street, New Street Station and the surrounding areas.
The City Council today approved the outline planning application for the site. This provides for the current 1970s Axis building to be demolished and replaced by four commercial office buildings, including the 10-storey One Axis Square, which received detailed planning permission in January 2017.
The development will see structures ranging from 5 up to 23 storeys, set around a vibrant new public square with ground floor retail and high quality landscaping features.
The evolution of the plans during extensive public consultation has seen more detail on the building design, the addition of a rooftop restaurant and more detailed landscaping proposals.
Detailed planning permissions for the remaining buildings will be sought in the coming months.

The scheme is designed by Fletcher Priest Architects supported by Quod as planning consultants. The public consultations have been managed by local communications specialists, Gough Bailey Wright.
